Sales and Marketing

Debra Recommends CardScan

Debra Russell recommends, contact management, sales and marketing, CRM

I have been using a CardScan scanner since 2003, and it’s saved me literally hundreds of hours. I gather business cards where ever I go. And these cards used to sit in piles on my desk. Now, in a jif, I scan them into a database, add them to my newsletter list – and they become part of my network, instead of part of the chaos on my desk.

Multiple Streams of Art/Music Income

Artists MBA, Foundation ProgramWe’ve talked here about why most artists never earn a prosperous living from their art – because they’re all following the same standard, limited approaches in the same standard, limited market places.   And they’re missing a whole world of lucrative opportunities that are right within their grasp.

So how do you break out of the familiar system, and build a successful business as an artist?

The key is Multiple Streams of Art/Music Income.  Multiple Streams of Art/Music Income is a powerful, comprehensive way to approach your business as a whole and your marketing strategy in specific.

In this call, you’ll learn:

  • The 8 steps to developing a Multiple Streams Business that earns you money while you sleep
  • How to turn existing products into additional income streams with little additional effort
  • How to harness the power of today’s technology to multiply your audience far beyond your current markets
  • How to create lifetime fans who will purchase from you over and over again – even while you’re still developing your next project

Alternative Marketing for Visual Artists Presented by Art Business Consultant and Coach, Martha Zlatar

artists-marketing-business-academy-interview-with-expertsMainstream art galleries are not the only way to sell your artwork. Actually most successful visual artists do not make the majority of their sales from galleries.

Designed specifically for visual and spatial artists, this workshop will get you thinking outside of the gallery so you can find alternative spaces for your artwork.

In this class you will discover:

  • Types of galleries: Non-profit vs. Mainstream vs. Edgy Cutting Edge
  • Is the gallery system right for you?
  • How your goals help define your venue (exposure vs. sales)
  • Ways to take your art on tour (from hotels, to banks to building lobbies)
  • Possible alternative strategies for your art career.

I want to personally thank Martha – a fellow Artists Marketing & Business Academy member – for stepping in for me while I’m in Los Angeles expanding my coaching skills.

Debra Recommends Folk Venue List Serve

A list serve for folk venue promoters – primarily a place for them to discuss amongst themselves the issues that they face as venues.

This is NOT  a good place to promote your act – but is useful for market research.  This is a great place for a musician to lurk and find out what are the problems, needs, and desires of acoustic venue bookers.  The better to be able to solve their problems and fulfill their needs and desires – making you a more attractive act to book.

Folk Venue List-Serve

Debra Recommends FOLKDJ List Serve

FOLKDJ-L is an electronic discussion group for DJs and other people interested in all folk-based music (bluegrass, old-time, traditional balladry, traditional international music, singer-songwriters, etc.) on the radio.  It is primarily a place where DJ’s post their play lists.

With over nine hundred subscribers from all corners of the earth, this can be a useful resource for finding the DJ’s who might play your music (by researching their taste and tendencies).  This is NOT a place to promote yourself.

The Internet Marketing Expert – an Interview with Patrick Schwerdtfeger

artists-marketing-business-academy-interview-with-expertsHaving seen Patrick speak, I’m absolutely thrilled to have him join us and teach us about Multiple Streams Step 5 – Generating Traffic:

Over 98% of websites get fewer than 5 visitors each day and a fantastic website without traffic does nothing to build your business. Attracting high-quality website visitors doesn’t have to cost a fortune. With some time and a little direction, you can accumulate strategic one-way inbound links and watch the targeted traffic pour in! This presentation will show you how.

Patrick Schwerdtfeger is the founder of Tactical Execution; a company that leverages progressive marketing strategies to build credibility and exposure for its clients. Patrick is an award winning speaker and was an instructor at the 2007 Internet Marketing Conference held in Stockholm, Sweden.

With a diverse background in marketing and finance, Patrick has a gift for explaining complicated subjects in simple language, making his presentations insightful and empowering.

I want to thank Patrick for being so generous with his time and expertise. This was a full 90 minutes, jam-packed with information on how to market yourself on the internet. Really incredible!

Multiple Streams Step 2: Elicit Their Problems

Artists MBA, Professional ProgramIn Step 1 of the Multiple Streams of Art/Music Income Model, you chose your niche.

Now that you know who you’re marketing to, the next step is to Elicit Their Problems. What does your ideal customer most NEED? WANT? DESIRE? What drives him or her?

This vital step begins to establish your relationship with your prospects. It also will impact every aspect of your business: your product creation, your marketing plan and how you distinguish yourself from your competition in the minds of your clients.**

In this powerful class you will:

  • Clear the one big belief that will sabotage your career
  • Learn 3 ways to explore what your niche wants, needs, desires
  • Discover the 2 most important questions to ask them, now that you have their attention
  • Learn how to apply this concept to both the End Buyer (your fans) and the B2B* Buyer (the venue owner, gallery owner, A&R, etc.)

* B2B = Business to Business
** Clients – Art is a service industry. Your clients are your fans and everyone who interacts with your art.
