Do you feel overwhelmed by how much work there is to do?
Creating your art, marketing your art, updating your website, blogging, Facebook, Twitter, booking, promoting, gigging, Holy Cow!
What does streamline your business mean?
Streamlining: To improve the efficiency of a process, business or organization by simplifying or eliminating unnecessary steps, using modernizing techniques, or taking other approaches.
Two key mistakes I see business owners make (and not just artists):
- With recurring actions in your business (like marketing, accounting, gigging) – you do it from scratch each time as if its the first time. Can you imagine if you had to recreate the wheel every time you drove your car? Stop recreating the wheel in your business!
What if, instead you create a system that will eliminate the decisions, document that system so you don’t have to keep all the steps in your head, and then delegate it (where possible) so someone else can do it for you!
- Thinking you have to create a system, tool or technique from scratch when there are lots of other business owners out there doing the same kinds of things you are. Where ever possible, find existing systems, tools and techniques and adapt them to your business!
It’s true, it takes time to build a system.
But once built, systems save you time, energy, stress and money – every time you use it!
Streamlining your business will also make you look professional. Because you will be able to deliver consistent results, keep your promises and make it look easy keeping all the balls in the air!
“Being busy does not always mean real work. The object of all work is production or accomplishment and to either of these ends there must be forethought, system, planning, intelligence, and honest purpose, as well as perspiration. Seeming to do is not doing.”
